On September 2, 2025, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning met in Beijing with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 and events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Wang Huning stated that China and Iran have a profound traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 54 years ago, bilateral relations have maintained steady and sound development. This afternoon, President Xi Jinping held a fruitful meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian, reaching new and important common understandings on deepening China-Iran relations. China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Iran, implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and work for new progress in China-Iran relations. The CPPCC National Committee is willing to play an active role in this regard.

Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is far-sighted, and that the Iranian side highly appreciates and supports the initiative. Iran is ready to continue to deepen practical cooperation with China, firmly support each other, jointly oppose hegemony and bullying, safeguard international fairness and justice, and promote the in-depth development of Iran-China relations.
