On March 18, 2026, Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and the World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS, delivered written remarks to the virtual meeting of the WHO World TB Day 2026.

Peng Liyuan said that the WHO and the international community have always adhered to the mission of safeguarding human health and the goal of ending TB epidemic, and have done a great deal of effective work, reversing the trend of continuous increase in the number of TB patients in recent years. It is of great significance that the WHO hosts the virtual meeting to encourage discussions on “Led by countries, powered by people” and to promote the international community’s joint response to the public health challenge of TB.

Peng Liyuan said that the Chinese government has always placed great emphasis on TB prevention and treatment, coordinated multiple departments to implement prevention and treatment measures, and accelerated the development of TB prevention and treatment technologies through scientific and technological innovation, continuously elevating the level of prevention and treatment work. China’s health service network, covering over 1.4 billion urban and rural residents, has effectively enhanced the accessibility of TB prevention and treatment, leading to a continuous decline in the TB incidence rate and China’s entry into the ranks of countries with a medium-low TB prevalence. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the implementation of China's large-scale volunteer campaign to raise awareness for TB prevention and control. Over the past 15 years, more than 1 million volunteers in China have devoted themselves to the cause of TB prevention and treatment, carrying out over 80,000 volunteer service programs in total. She said that she has  often joined volunteers in visiting communities, schools, and medical and health institutions, witnessing their compassion, dedication and contribution, as well as the development and progress of China’s TB prevention and treatment efforts.

Peng Liyuan said that ending TB and safeguarding health are our common pursuit and expectation. I call upon people from all countries and all sectors to take active action, support and participate in the global TB prevention and treatment efforts, convey warmth and care, build confidence and hope together, so that the achievements of TB prevention and treatment can benefit all humanity, and jointly build a community of health for all.
