On 27 October 2026, Ambassador of China to Cyprus Yang Yundong attended the China-Cyprus Subnational Exchange and Cooperation Forum and Business Forum. The event was also attended by Mr Kyriakos Iordanou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, Mr Philokypros Roussounides, Secretary General of Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Andreas Vyras, President of Union of Cyprus Municipalities and Mayor of Larnaca, Mr Charalambos Prountzos, Mayor of Nicosia, senior officials from Chinese cities such as Yancheng, Dazhou and Ningbo, as well as nearly 100 representatives from local authorities and business sectors of the two countries.    

Ambassador Yang pointed out that the Forum, held under the framework of the China-Cyprus Sister City Alliance, is one of the series of events to mark 55 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Local authorities and businesses of the two sides are expected to step up cooperation with each other, so as to strengthen the people-to-people bonds, and make bigger contributions to the growth of China-Cyprus relations.

The Cypriot side noted that China is a global center for technology, innovation, manufacturing and investment; the Cyprus-China relationship is experiencing sound growth; and the Cypriot side is ready to work with the Chinese side to transform strong bilateral relations into concrete commercial partnerships.

On the sidelines of the Forum, business representatives of the two countries signed cooperation documents. A business matchmaking event was held as well.
