On 15 July 2026, Ambassador of China to Cyprus Yang Yundong paid a courtesy call on AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou.  

Ambassador Yang elaborated on the key messages of the important speech of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at the gathering marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. He congratulated AKEL on its 100th anniversary, and spoke highly of CPC-AKEL relations. He also expressed willingness to further facilitate inter-party exchanges on governance, so as to make new joint efforts to deepen bilateral relations and improve the wellbeing of the two peoples.   

General Secretary Stefanou expressed congratulations on the 105th anniversary of the CPC, and extended welcome to Ambassador Yang on his assumption of the new post. He said that AKEL will further deepen exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, and continue to contribute to the sustained and steady growth of Cyprus-China relations. 

Ambassador Yang also presented General Secretary Stefanou with the fifth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.
