On 10 June, to celebrate the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations and the 55th anniversary of China-Cyprus diplomatic relations, the Embassy of China in Cyprus and the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus jointly hosted the opening ceremony of the Chinese Film Week in Cyprus. 

The event was attended by over 400 participants, including Mr Zhou Yunliang, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, Mr Georgios Papageorgiou, Representative of the President of Cyprus and Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Mrs Irene Piki, Deputy Minister to the President, and Mr Khassim Diagne, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. 

The event began with the video address by H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China at the 2026 Event to Celebrate the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations. 

Chargé d’affaires Zhou then delivered remarks, expressing the hope that the two sides will take the Chinese Film Week as an opportunity to further expand exchanges and cooperation, so as to ensure that the friendship between the two countries continues to flourish from generation to generation. 

Permanent Secretary Papageorgiou pointed out that the Chinese Film Week provides an excellent foundation upon which China-Cyprus future partnerships can grow. 

Special Representative Diagne stressed that the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations reflects a shared global commitment to fostering mutual understanding, respect and cooperation across cultures. 

The event also featured the premiere of Sound of Shanghai, a film directed by Cypriot artist Marios Elia, setting a good example of inter-civilization dialogue between China and Cyprus. 

The event was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
