On November 13, 2025, Ambassador Liu Yantao paid a farewell call on Mr Stefanos Stefanou, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Progressive Party for the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL).

Ambassador Liu noted that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and AKEL are like-minded comrades and brothers. In recent years, exchanges between the two parties have deepened, and their friendship has continued to grow stronger. The Chinese side stands ready to further enhance cooperation with AKEL and work together to promote the sustained, stable, and sound development of the China-Cyprus strategic partnership.

General Secretary Stefanou highly commended Ambassador Liu for his significant contributions to advancing relations between the two parties and the two countries during his tenure. He emphasized that the remarkable achievements of socialism with Chinese characteristics provide valuable experience for the world, and that progressive forces everywhere look to China with hope. AKEL, he added, is willing to further deepen exchanges with the Chinese side and jointly elevate China-Cyprus relations to a new level.
