On December 10, 2020, Ambassador Liu Yantao paid a courtesy call on President Averof Neofytou of Democratic Rally (DISY). The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on issues including China-Cyprus relations and cooperation as well as the Cyprus Problem.

Ambassador Liu spoke highly of China-Cyprus relations and deeply appreciated President Neofytou and DISY for strictly abiding by the "One China" policy and rendering China strong support on issues involving China's core interests. China will remain committed to the "One Cyprus" policy and play a constructive role in the comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus Problem. China has full confidence in the economic and social development of Cyprus and in the prospects of practical cooperation between the two countries. China is ready to work with Cyprus to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cyprus diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to further promote mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas including two-ways investment and digital economy.

President Neofytou warmly welcomed Ambassador Liu to assume his duties in Cyprus and spoke highly of the relationship and cooperation between Cyprus and China. He sincerely thanked China for the firm support rendered to Cyprus on the settlement of the Cyprus Problem and was pleased to see significant progress in mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in energy, transportation, communications and other areas in recent years, adding that Cyprus is ready to continue to enhance mutual trust with China and tap potential for further cooperation in various fields under the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative.
