On November 30, 2020, Ambassador Liu Yantao paid a courtesy call on President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Adamos Adamou. Also present was Mr. Socrates Socratous, Secretary General of the House of Representatives.

Ambassador Liu said that as good brothers, friends and partners, China and Cyprus have always supported each other on issues concerning the other's core interests. China cherishes the traditional friendship between China and Cyprus, and is optimistic about the prospects of bilateral cooperation. China is willing to continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, aiming to drive China-Cyprus relationship to a higher level. Ambassador Liu expressed sincere appreciation for the House of Representatives and government of Cyprus for strictly abiding by the "One China" policy, stressing that China has always firmly pursued the "One Cyprus" policy, and has been consistently calling on all parties to fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will continue to play a constructive role in the comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus Problem.

House President Adamou warmly welcomed Ambassador Liu to assume his new post in Cyprus, and spoke highly of the rapid development of the friendship and cooperation between China and Cyprus in recent years. He said that the traditional friendship between the two countries has been deepening as exchanges at all levels and cooperation in various fields continue to expand. Cyprus attaches great importance to the development of its relations with China and sees great potential for deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, digital transformation and innovation under the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative. Cyprus is grateful for China's firm support on the Cyprus Problem and China's important role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. The House of Representatives of Cyprus is looking forward to enhancing exchanges with the Chinese National People's Congress to jointly achieve new and greater development of bilateral relations in more areas.
