On November 6, 2020, Ambassador Liu Yantao presented copy of his Letter of Credence to Ambassador Elpidoforos Economou, Chief of State Protocol of the Republic of Cyprus.

Ambassador Liu said that he is honored to undertake this prestigious mission as the 14th Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus. China and Cyprus share many similarities and the bilateral ties have maintained steady and sound growth over the years. China and Cyprus have consistently shown understanding and support on issues bearing on each other's core interests and major concerns , setting a model of peaceful coexistence, equal footed partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation between countries of different sizes. 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cyprus diplomatic relations. China hopes that the two countries will take this opportunity to push bilateral relations to a higher level.

Ambassador Economou warmly welcomed Ambassador Liu to assume his duties in Cyprus, and spoke highly of the traditional friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. He recalled with pleasure unforgettable and wonderful memories of his previous visits to China and said that China is a trustworthy and good friend of Cyprus, as further evidenced by the precious and generous assistance from China to Cyprus in the fight against COVID-19. Cyprus cherishes its friendship with China, and he is ready to facilitate and contribute to the promotion of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
